In reference to the Supreme Court order dated 31.03.2020 in the Writ Petition No. 468/2020 and 469/2020, Ministry of Home Affairs on 12.04.2020 wrote to all the States/Union Territories to comply with the directions stated in the Supreme Court’s order.

The order passed by the Apex Court on 31.03.2020 directed to ensure that trained counsellors and community groups visited shelter homes/ camps and deal with any hardships faced by the migrant workers residing there. Furthermore, the order also directed the police authorities to deal with these workers humanely and thereby understand their mental and emotional turmoil at this point of time.

The Home Ministry also referred to the letter dated 01.04.2020 by the Chief Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare that emphasised on the compliance of the directions passed by the Supreme Court.

In view of the sensitive situation that the country is in, the Home Ministry directed all the states and union territories to comply with all the necessary guidelines provided by the government in order to curb the spread of this catastrophic outbreak of Covid-19.
