The Hon’ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana Judicature at Chandigarh on 28.05.2020 directed Labour Commissioner, Chandigarh to consider the complaint of The Tribune trust Employees Union, Chandigarh (Petitioner) and accordingly pass appropriate orders. The matter, Petitioner v. Respondent, was disposed of by single bench Hon’ble Justice Arun Monga.

The Petitioner moved to court aggrieved by the Respondents order dated 25.04.2020 and 01.05.2020 wherein the management took decision to permanently reduce the wages/ salaries of its employees due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Petitioner submitted that despite various representation made before the Tribune Trust as well as Labour Department, Chandigarh yet no steps were taken to mitigate the issue. Further, the representation was also made before Finance Secretary, Chandigarh and Union of India.

The Petitioner contends that the present case is violation of provisions under Industrial Dispute Act 1947 and Working Journalist and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act,1955.
