The Justice of Rights Foundation approached the Supreme Court seeking intervention of the Supreme Court to ensure the sale of masks and sanitizers at reasonable prices to the public at large and has requested for directions for the same in the wake of the COVID- 19 outbreak.

The Solicitor- General Tushar Meta submitted to the court that surgical/N95 had been declared as essential goods and that steps were taken by the Government of India to ensure availability and distribution of masks, hand sanitizers and liquid soaps at minimum retail prices fixed by the government. He further submitted that there is also a help-line provided, and the control room which are working round the clock responding to complaints by persons who are not able to secure essential commodities at the prices fixed by the government.

Accordingly, the bench comprising of Justices L. Nageswara Rao and Deepak Gupta noted the submission put forward by the Government and directed the Government of India to address the complaints properly. The petition was disposed of with abovementioned directions.
